Chapter 52: Meeting Daniel

 It was Friday evening and the president's only competitor who's poll position according to intel published on all media houses prior to the elections showed him to be nowhere close to winning the elections no matter what he would do. He was in a restaurant having some tea expecting his lawyer who was to help him get some documents ready to register as a presidential candidate in the elections. As he drank his tea in the rather fancy hotel that only operated through reservations for esteemed customers only. Since the president's main opponent had reserved a dinner for two Jason had no problem getting in the hotel by just telling the reception that he was the expected guest. Jason walked to his table and took a sit despite the confused look on the guys face

"Good evening Mr Daniel,it's quite a calm evening don't u say?" Jason said as he sat next to him

"And who are you supposed to be? Who the hell is this guy?" Daniel asked Jason before asking his bodyguard who was standing next to him. The bodyguard looked at Daniel and said,

"He told them he was your lawyer" 

"Does he look anything like my lawyer?" Daniel asked the bodyguard

"I don't,which is a relief. You should get someone who actually has a sense in fashion. More like me" Jason said as he poured himself a cup of tea

"Is this some kind of prank?" Daniel asked his bodyguard

"Believe me,he is as confused as I was when I first learnt that best friend is just a cover for friends with benefits" Jason said as he took a sip of the tea, "splendid stuff they have here"

"Can you get this ignoramus baffoon from my face" Daniel said now raising his voice

"Be careful who you throw out of your house Mr Daniel" Jason said as he got up with the cup in hand

"Is that a threat?" Daniel asked

"No,no,no....I don't make threats. All I'm just saying is, maybe you could be throwing out your next ticket to the highest office on the land" Jason said as he willingly started to head for the exit

"Wait" Daniel called out," what do you mean by that? How can you help me?" He asked

"Well Mr Daniel,I can't help someone who has barely invited me for a meal" Jason said as he stood close to the door with his back towards Daniel

"Pardon my manners, if you don't mind, please join me for a drink" Daniel said as he humbled down

"That's more like it" Jason said as he turned around and walked to table and took a seat

"I didn't get your name" Daniel said

"That's because I didn't tell you, for now just call me X, at your service" Jason said as he ordered for a vodka "this is definitely better than that cup of tea" he said as he took the first sip

"So, you said something about helping me clinch the top seat" Daniel said as he hoped to get more information on how Jason was going to do that," what's in it for you?" He asked

"I'm not expecting something fancy from you. I'm sure you don't need to have a degree in rocket science to tell you that there's no possibility in any dimension that you could get that seat through the people's vote" Jason said

"I'm not new to that statement, thank you for rubbing it in" Daniel told him

"Oh no,you don't get what I mean. I'm trying to say that Loki has blinded the eyes of every citizen and they have all bought the whole story. Trying to talk them out of this hypnosis is like trying to teach a blind guy to see in a dark room" Jason told him

"What are you trying to imply? Daniel asked." The only other way apart from ballot is treason which could only lead to anarchy in a worst case scenario" Daniel said, "don't tell me you want me governing a coup in my own country"

"What? No,never would I ask that from you. There's so many ways to kill a rat, now the ballot was one way but that would be a complete and total waste of time and energy" Jason said

"What's your other way of killing this rat?" Daniel asked

"Well it's simple, you just let him win the elections"Jason as he took a big gulp of his drink

"I'm sorry, what???" Daniel exclaimed nearly choking on his drink

"Yes, just let him win in peace and I'll do the rest" Jason told him

"Whose side are you on?" Daniel asked, " because I'm starting to doubt if you are even going to help me"

"I don't have any sides,I just want what's mine and while I'm at it you get the spoils. So think of it more like a win win" Jason told him

"So how is letting Loki win part of me getting that high office? And why come to me in the first place?" Daniel asked

"Well I don't want you lawyering up once they declare him the winner of the upcoming elections,I need Loki to be in a comfortable position celebrating his win" Jason said

"And why's that?" Daniel asked

"You sure do have a lot of questions, but oh well. So, if you don't lawyer up and let Loki celebrate his win without any disturbance he will get comfortable. And what I know is that comfortable people always have their guard down so he'll have his guard down long enough for me to get what I want. And once in done with that, you will just have to trust that I'll make sure you seat on that seat by the time I'm done with Loki" Jason said as he looked at Daniel's eyes with certainty

"I still don't understand what you're getting out of this but I guess everyone has a secret that they would rather not tell everyone" Daniel said

"I'm glad we're on the same page, so I guess we have a deal, don't lawyer up " Jason said

"No lawyering, that one I can personally guarantee. My instinct tells me that you have a personal issue to solve with Loki" Daniel said ," I just hope that you get what you're looking for"

"Believe me Daniel,I'm going to get what I want no matter what or who. And that's a promise" Jason said with an intense look in his eyes

"For some reason, I believe you. But be careful not to make any rash decisions while you are at it" Daniel said

"I've come too far to mess up now. It's not me you should be worried about. I feel pity for the person I'm after. It's just that I couldn't risk going after the president without some sort of backup. The last thing that I want is to throw the nation into pandemonium and risk me not getting what I came here for. So, do we have a deal" Jason said as he stretched his hand out for a handshake

" Yes we do, let me even start practicing my loser's cry" Daniel said as he shook his hand

"Just make sure once you clinch that seat you don't disgrace it since I will personally make sure that you follow Loki to whatever hole that he will be crawling into after I'm done with him." Jason said as he stood up ready to leave

"I wish I could have met you earlier" Daniel said as he stood with him to give him the respect he deserved as he left

"I'm pretty sure it's better that I met you just today, perfect timing if you may say" Jason said as he turned and was taking his leave

"It was an honor Mr X" Daniel said out loud

"Likewise Daniel" Jason shouted back as he left the hotel
