Chapter 51: A Girlfriend, Maybe?

 Meanwhile during the ice cream date

Jason and Marla were still eating their icecream as the they talked. They were nearly done with the icecream. As they talked, the waiter who served them came to their table

"Mr West, I'd like to tell you that you happen to be our fiftieth customer this week and we have a policy where we gift our customer of the week with anything on the menu" the waiter said

"Looks like luck is on your side" Marla said

"Looks like it, so anything we order is on the house?" Jason said to Marla before he turned and asked the waiter

"Anything sir" the waiter confirmed

"Well, what do you want to have?" Jason asked Marla

"Currently I'm sure this ice cream has made me full. That's something I thought I'd never say, so you order" Marla said

"If you don't mind, can we get two drinks drinks to wash this icecream down. And to cap it off,I want the parlour's special for her as takeaway" Jason said

"What's that" Marla asked

"Just wait and see" Jason answered her

"And should I write the name of your girlfriend on it?" The waiter asked

"Girlfriend?" Marla asked looking at both Jason and the waiter

"No no no, I'm nearly there but not yet there" Jason said to the waiter." I mean the guy asked a good question" he said as he turned to Marla

"I'm Marla, and I'm not yet his girlfriend. He's still working up the ranks" she said to him

"Tough one I see" the waiter said to Jason as he wrote her name down

"Tell me about it" Jason replied to him as finished writing and went. When Jason looked at Marla she had an inquisitive look on her face

"What?" He asked as he smiled," the guy does have a point"

"You want to be my boyfriend?" She asked as she smiled

" Well, I have taken you out on a few dates now, we have kissed and I'm still not your boyfriend" Jason said

"I don't make assumptions Jason, you have to officially ask me if I can be your girlfriend and I decide yes or no" she said

"So I can ask now?" He asked

"No silly, you have to make it unexpected. Not that I mention it then you get to ask" she answered

"Well good thing now I know" he said.

"Let's leave that topic for now, mind if I ask, what are some of your best moments?" She asked

"What do you mean?" He asked back

"Well I took you for the type of guy who somehow got rich while still young. So I'm sure you had some quite interesting experiences in your youth" she said

"Surprisingly enough,I didn't get enough time to explore the world" Jason said

"You could have anything in the world with your cash but for some reason you didn't have any time to spend it?" She asked

"Sounds weird,I know" Jason said

"Very weird" she replied to him

"Now back at you, if you could travel to any country... Which one would it be?" He asked

"Japan" she answered

"Why Japan?" He answered

"I just love the county, from it's diverse cultures to their technology. I just wish that one day to go there for a week, explore the country,eat some of their unique delicacies." Marla said as her mind drifted off

"Well that sounds like a good adventure, you know we can plan that" Jason said as he smiled

"You're just kidding, right?" She asked

"I'm serious" Jason said

"You know, the hardest thing I'm trying to grasp right now is that you may be kidding but your financial capabilities can prove me wrong" Marla said

"So you're at crossroads?" He asked

"Yes of course, but I'm still surprised that you have not had the chance of traveling the world at your age" she said

"Are you implying that I'm getting a bit too old to have some fun?" Jason asked as he took the last scoop of his icecream

"No, of course not. Well maybe yes" she answered as she laughed

"I feel attacked, as soon as I'm done with what I'm working on in this city I'm going to travel the world" Jason said

"Oh really?" She asked

"Are you teasing me right now? Because if you are, I'm not going to bring you along" Jason said

"I was going to tease you but now that you just mentioned that I might be coming with you, I won't tease" she said

"Well that sure got you a bit excited" Jason told her as she too was taking her last scoop of the icecream

"Of course, who would want to miss the chance to travel the world? I know I wouldn't" Marla said

"Well I was hoping to travel the world with my girlfriend that time" Jason said

"Are you trying to bribe me?" She asked

" No, I'm just saying " Jason answered

"Well we'll see when that day comes if you will have made your way to the top of the table" Marla said

"I like that about you" Jason said

" What are you talking about?" Marla asked

"You know that if I wanted to travel the world, it wouldn't be a big deal to me. I just gave you an offer to travel with me then if you were my girlfriend but you turned down my offer. Most girls would have asked me to be their man if that offer was on the table, but not you. You are hell-bent on making sure I deserve that title, I like that" Jason said

"This was a test,I can't believe that it was a test" she said while laughing. Just then the waiter came and took their bowls and whispered something to Jason before he walked away

"What was that about, was the bill to high?" She asked with a smile

"Nice one, but no. He just told me that the takeaway gift is ready so he was confirming if he should bring it" Jason said

"Well tell him to bring it, I want to see it" Marla said

"It's already on it's way" Jason said as he looked over his shoulder and saw the waiter bringing it in a box. When he turned around he was happy to see her face light up with happiness. The waiter brought it and placed it on Marla's side. She looked at Jason as if waiting for him to say something

"It's yours to take away, but I know that you want to see what's inside so go ahead" Jason said to which Marla carefully but with quick hands opened the box. Her face went from just curious to pure excitement when she opened it. For she saw a big chocolate covered cake.

"I'm guessing you like it" Jason said

"Like it, I love it. But there's something written on it" she said

"Yeah, you're name" Jason said

"No, there's more than just that. It says 'Marla will you be my girlfriend?'" she said

"Well it wasn't supposed to say that" Jason said as he rose and went to her side to read what she read. "Well it clearly says that" Jason said as he read it himself

"Did you plan this?" She asked

"No I didn't, actually I'm as surprised as you are" Jason said." But since the question has already been popped, will you?" He asked

"Are you serious right now?" She asked him

"Well the universe just have me an opportunity and I'm not letting it slide, so Marla, will you be my girlfriend?" Jason asked

"You really are something else" Marla said

"That sounded like a yes to me, was it?" Jason asked as he kissed her on the cheek

"It wasn't" she replied

"So that's a no?" He asked

"I didn't say that either" Marla said as she turned to look at him." Yes, I will be your girlfriend, just because I didn't expect that" she said with a smile

"Neither did I, but I'm glad that lady luck gave me an opportunity" Jason said as he bent and kissed her
