Chapter 37: Getaway Driver

 On the other side of the city, Tyler paid a visit to Bennett.

"Excuse me sir, you have a visitor" Peter told Bennett as he opened the door for Tyler. Tyler walked in and embraced Bennett.

"He's not a visitor Peter, he can call this place home" Bennett said as he addressed Peter before turning to Tyler." It's been so long, where have you been?" He asked

"You know, nothing much. Just shooting the mayor and stuff" Tyler replied

"That was you? I should have guessed. What was that all about?" Bennett asked

"You remember the night you got a visit by three armed guys?" Tyler asked

"Yes, very clearly" Bennett answered and that's when Tyler shrugged his shoulders in a way that said 'that's why'.

"Jason asked you to?" Bennett asked

"Yeap, turns out he doesn't like anyone risking your life" Tyler answered

"That boy doesn't joke around" Bennett said with a chuckle." Here, join me for a drink," he said as he handed him a glass of scotch with ice and asked him to sit down with him

"Thanks,I really need something to take my mind off everything that is happening" Tyler said as he took a sip

"How's he doing?" Bennett asked

"Who? Jason?" Tyler asked back

"Yeah, how is my boy doing?" Bennett asked

"He's doing good, he's trying so much" Tyler answered

"Does he still blame himself?" Bennett asked

"Not a single day passes without him having that thought. I don't think he'll ever rest until he finally finishes what he started" Tyler answered

"I remember I tried convincing him otherwise for more than one year, if I couldn't do that, no one can" Bennett said as he stared into the fire at the fireplace

"And that's what worries me. He'll never stop, even if it means taking his last breath" Tyler replied 

"Will he ever heal?" Bennett asked

"Never. People get wounds when they're hurt Bennett, but Jason, Jason has scars. Those never heal" Tyler answered

"What about you?" Bennett asked

"I'm also trying, I'm really trying. I'm more worried about Jason, he doesn't care what it takes as long as he gets one step closer to the killer. And now that, scares me." Tyler answered

"I mean, you have already shot the mayor as a warning shot. I don't think there's a next level of crazy other than that" Bennett joked and both of them found themselves laughing despite the seriousness of the matter. When they were done laughing Tyler looked at Bennett in a very serious way

"What?" Bennett asked

"Just when I thought too that Jason couldn't get any crazier, he just did" Tyler said

"What did he do now? Plan a jailbreak?" Bennett ironically joked

"Funny you should say that" Tyler replied with an evil smile

"No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. No fucking way! Are you guys out of your minds?" Bennett asked

"That's what I said" Tyler replied as he shrugged his shoulders

"Do you know how crazy that sounds?" Bennett asked

"That's what I said" Tyler replied again with the same reaction

"Do you know how many ways that can go wrong?" Bennett asked and when he saw Tyler shrug his shoulders again, he beat him to the answer and answered himself," Let me guess, that's what you said"

"Exactly" Tyler said

"Do you have a plan?" Bennett asked

"We're working on it" Tyler answered

"You don't even have one yet? Can this get any crazier?" Bennett asked as he took a large gulp

"He texted me while back, told me that the jailbreak needs to happen in about a week" Tyler added on

"A wee--" Bennett said before he stopped,"-- I clearly need more scotch for this madness" he said as he got up and went to pour himself another glass. "So let me get this straight, you are planning a jailbreak without a plan and you need to execute it in about a week"

"That's not even the best part" Tyler said

"Wahala, just when I thought this couldn't get any better, like a jack in a box, you just keep surprising me. Enlighten me how this is not even the best part" Bennett said

"We're breaking out a hitman" Tyler said

"I'm sorry, I might have heard you wrong because it kind of sounded like you said a hitman, like a guy who kills for money, something that the both of you are good at without the money part." Bennett said in a more of sarcastic tone

"Yeah, I said hitman" Tyler repeated

"What the hell do you need a hitman for?" Bennett asked

"I don't even know" Tyler said

"You're breaking out a hitman and you don't know why? Help me to understand that" Bennett requested

"Jason said it is part of the plan. That the hitman is part of the plan" Tyler said

"You know I thought that Jason might not be good psychologically, but I now see he's clearly loosing his goddamn mind" Bennett said

"I thought that too, but you know he's always got a plan" Tyler replied

"And that is what's scaring me right now," Bennett said, " you never know what is going on in his head."

"I have learnt to live with it old man, he might have some pretty radical reasonings and plans that even nut jobs can't come up with in mental asylums, but for some reason he just ends up at the top" Tyler said

"And that is what made him the Ghost, the undefeated entity in Europe that sent chills to anyone who mentioned his name" Bennett said

"Do you think he'll ever come back?" Tyler asked

"Who? The Ghost?" Bennett asked

"Yes, I mean that day when Yuri was murdered,I saw the Ghost inside Jason's eyes fade away. Do you think he'll ever be back to the man he was before?" Tyler asked

"That's a hard question Tyler. After something so tragic like that happened, I didn't even think Jason would even be able to stand on his two feet. And yet he did, so I think it's just a matter of time and we'll see if he'll return" Bennett answered

"By the way, back to the jailbreak thing. Do you still have that long range sniper that I used for the courthouse shooting?" Tyler asked

"Yes I do. Mind if I ask why you need it?" Bennett asked

"Well I have a feeling that I'll need it" Tyler replied

"You do know that that gun does a lot of damage"Bennett said

"That's exactly what I'm counting on"Tyler said. "And one more thing please"

"I'm listening" Bennett said

"Considering the nature of our next task, I'm sure we'll probably need a getaway driver." Tyler told him

"I see no way that I can be of help when it comes to that" Bennett said

"Come on Bennett, I know you used to be a good driver back in the day" Tyler tried to sweet talk him

"That was then, this is now" Bennett said

"Everyone has that one last gas tank that needs to be cleaned out. What do you say, are you ready for one last ride?" Tyler tried even more

"Tyler, you are asking a very old man to be your getaway driver in a jailbreak where I could possibly die in a shootout" Bennett said

"Now when you put it like that, it sounds bad, but it's worth the try" Tyler said

"I'm not driving anymore" Bennett said," And here I thought that Jason was the only one loosing his mind, you just jumped on the band wagon" he joked

"Where are we supposed to get a driver whose got the skills?" Tyler asked. Bennett just looked at him and whistled out loud. And from somewhere in the rooms came Peter

"If you need a driver, look no further" Bennett said as he pointed to Peter." And you can trust him"

"Peter, I need someone to help me with a job that might end up in a high speed chase with the police and bullets flying all over, and Bennett here says you're the right man for the job. So, how fast can you drive?" Tyler asked

Peter looked at Bennett who just smiled at him like a go ahead, he then looked at Tyler and said,

"Fast enough."
